Portmanteau List: A Beginner's Guide to Lesbian Culture

“Lovers” “ — Title Unknown — ” by Kenne Gregoire (1951)

The following lists are by no means comprehensive but merely a personalised expanded guiding arrows in the general direction of lesbian culture, which include different tastes and intersectional identities. There is no order of any sort, neither preference nor genre nor groupings nor alphabetical order - I wrote them down as they came to me or as I went along my shelves or bookmarks etc. It's unlikely all will appeal to all, so there's a range to try and have at least a few enjoyable and identifiable references for most. It's a starting point to expand from depending on the branch which calls out and appeals to you and which you decide to follow.

The Plague

what is this generation of diseases
trapped between the individual and pressure who pleases
the great depression, a plague, the third world war
it’s happening all and everywhere
the great illness swept this generation
the war within the mind in temptation
it killed and numbed, that was the plague
desire, information, never fulfilled
possibility, opportunity, never fulfilled
we decay, decay as the corpses lives longer
live longer how? we stopped living
the mind dies decades before the limbs do
who are we
possibilities of science, not human minds
shells carrying the plague from one tank to the next
wandering towards death within living flesh
this generation, trapped
disease, we cannot see it, too ignorant yet
let’s race to live, let’s know, understand
but the more we do, the more it eats
we aren’t meant to live this long
that is the point depression makes
enough life only for nothingness within
no life, no thought, no lies, not caught
but early death and purpose
simple or complex, the pain is exquisite
no more ash clouds, oh please
no more battles
no more dripping, dripping
no more bleeding pain
no more brain, no more brain
remove the plague from me

remove this generation for eternity

Time Crush

52 weeks
365 days
8760 hours
525600 minutes

There once was a time
A year in this paradigm
Five two weeks
One up, three six, start again
Five days

Eight, then down,
Seven six-ty hours
Remember the start
Five two five
End like hours, six hundred minutes

But now

How do I punch my brain
Without punishing my mind?
Just a little more weight on my head.
Just a little bit more so it crushes me
I'll float away and I'll finally be free.
